The Amar Sagar lake is an oasis near the palace of Amar Singh. It is adjacent to the 17th-century citadel which was constructed by Maharawal Akhai Singh and is located on the outskirts of Jaisalmer city. Built in the pattern of apartments, the palace complex comprises of number wells and ponds along with chhatris. It is believed that these wells were constructed by prostitutes. Amar Singh was believed to be an ardent follower of Lord Shiva. Hence, an ancient Shiva temple made of marble was constructed in the 18th century. Although it is built in a pattern of apartments, the five-storey haveli is famous for its intricate murals.
There are a series of steps and a pavilion beside the palace that leads to the lake. At the far end of the lake, there is an aesthetically carved Jain temple that boasts its fine structure made of Jaisalmer stones. An exciting part of the lake is the stone carved figureheads which are believed to protect the royal family.
On the outskirts of Western Jaisalmer, approximately 4 Km from Bada Bagh, lies Amar Sagar Lake. Beautiful and serene, a series of steps from the Amar Singh Palace leads you to the lake. Amar Sagar Lake is situated 7 km from the western boundaries of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. It is a lake and oasis located next to the Amar Singh Palace which was made in the 17th century.

History
Amar Sagar Lake is counted amongst one of Jaisalmers most picturesque water bodies, despites being somewhat smaller in size as compared with other famous lakes. Another reason for its popularity is the Amar Singh Palace located adjacent to the lake. The palace was built in 17th century by Maharawal Akhai Singh ( reigned 1722-61 ) in honor of his predecessors Amar Singh. The lake serves as a true Oasis in the desert of Jaisalmer, relaxing the eyes through its enchanting water after one has witnessed miles of sun kissed desert and sand dunes- a welcome shift of colors from gray to blue. Jaisalmer is connected to major cities of India through
broad gauge as well as meter gauge railway tracks. Direct
trains to Jaisalmer are available from Jodhpur as well as
Delhi. Jaisalmer is connected through both 'Broad gauge'
as well as 'Meter gauge' tracks. One can also travel to
Jaisalmer by Palace on Wheels.
By Road -
Jaisalmer is well connected to the rest of state by

Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bikaner, Barmer, Mount Abu,

bus stands.
By Air -
Jaisalmer is not directly connected to Airways as such,
Jodhpur airport which is about 300 kms away is the nearest
airport. Jodhpur is connected to all the major metros of
India by government owned as well as private airlines.
From Jodhpur you can hire Cabs or take a train journey
according to one’s wish and preference.
